CCSD - Special Programs
Pilot Programs
The state of South Carolina allows schools to conduct pilot programs that are in accord with the state's curriculum and statutory standards. Pilot programs offered during a school year (with the exception of those approved by the state of South Carolina, Department of Education, approved by the CCSD Board of Trustees for districtwide implementation, or successfully evaluated for two years) must be evaluated and approved for continuation. The use of pilot programs allows schools to provide learning opportunities to students based upon the academic needs and interests of their students while meeting state curriculum requirements. Principals and Associate Superintendents review and approve all requests. Central staff team associates review applications to ensure compliance with state requirements.

Charleston County "School-To-Careers" Program
In 1994, The School-To-Work Transition Act was signed into law by the United States Department of Education. South Carolina was one of the several states to initiate School-To-Work legislation in 1994, which evolved into the Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) of 2005. School-To-Careers (STC) encourages exposure to a broad variety of career options through career speakers, job shadowing, mentoring, internships, workshops, worksite tours and a number of other activities. Our goal is to provide students with the knowledge and skills that will motivate and prepare them to pursue post secondary education or training or will help them to transition effectively into the workforce. Additionally, we want to help teachers learn to integrate real-world learning into their classrooms and we encourage this through various professional development opportunities such as the Educators in Industry Graduate Course and Educator Job Shadow Day
